Madagascar

Madagasca is a huge island nation off the southeast coast of Africa. It’s home to thousands of animal species, such as lemurs, found nowhere else, plus rainforests, beaches and reefs. The official currency of Madagascar since January 1, 2005 is the Malagasy Ariary (MGA), which has been reintroduced to replace the Malagasy franc. Malagasy is the most popular language in Madagascar with the majority of Madagascar residents being conversant with the language.

Nosy Be

Nosy Be is an island off Madagascar’s northwestern coast. It’s tropical climate and superb location makes it a perfect Madagascar’s beach-resort destination. It is 19 miles (30 km) long, 12 miles (19 km) wide, and has an area of about 120 square miles (310 square km),

Weather: During the months of June, July and August you are most likely to experience good weather with pleasant average temperatures.
On average, the temperatures are always high. A lot of rain (rainy season) falls in the months of: January, February, March, April, November and December.
On average, the warmest month is October, the coolest month is August, January is the wettest month. This month should be avoided if you don’t like too much rain. August is the driest month.

Nosy Mangabe

Nosy Mangabe is a small island reserve located in Antongil Bay about 2 km offshore from the town of Maroantsetra in north-east Madagascar. It is most famous as a refuge for the aye-aye, a strange lemur once thought to be on the verge of extinction.

Weather: In Nosy Mangabe the climate is tropical, hot all year round, with a rainy and hotter season from November to April, and a dry season from May to October. In the period that could be called winter, from June to September, at night the temperature usually drops below 20 °C (68 °F), and sometimes can even drop to around 15/16 °C (59/61 °F), but during the day it’s almost always warm, thanks to the winds that blow from the interior of Madagascar.

Ambohimanga

Ambohimanga is a hill and traditional fortified royal settlement in Madagascar, located approximately 24 kilometers northeast of the capital city of Antananarivo. The Royal Hill of Ambohimanga is the most important of the 12 hills surrounding the capital city of Antananarivo and is regarded as the embodiment of the Malagasy cultural identity.

Weather:The climate in Ambohimanga-Rova is warm and temperate. The summers here have a good deal of rainfall, while the winters have very little. The climate here is classified as Cwb by the Köppen-Geiger system. In Ambohimanga-Rova, the average annual temperature is 18.2 °C. About 1336 mm of precipitation falls annually.

Antananarivo

Antananarivo (also known as Tana) is the capital city of Madagascar, in the island’s Central Highlands and is home to about 2,000,000 inhabitants. Antananarivo boasts a rich history and heritage, evident in its numerous historic buildings, colonial-era neighborhoods, and archaeological museums.

Weather: January is the hottest month in Antananarivo with an average temperature of 22°C (72°F) and the coldest is July at 15°C (59°F) with the most daily sunshine hours at 8 in September. The wettest month is December with an average of 310mm of rain.

Ifaty

Ifaty is a vilage about 30km north of Taliara in South West Madagascar. It is a coastal area where you’ll find villages such as Mangily and Mandico Rano. The resort of Ifaty is renowned for snorkelling, diving and it is a great stopover before exploring the south west coast.

Weather:Ifaty has a desert climate. During the year, there is virtually no rainfall. This location is classified as BWh by Köppen and Geiger. The temperature here averages 24.3 °C. The rainfall here averages 369 mm.

Ranomafana National Park

Ranomafana National Park is in the southeastern part of Madagascar in Haute Matsiatra and Vatovavy-Fitovinany. This part was created in 1991 to protect some of the mid-altitude virgin rain forest in this mountainous region. This amazing National Park consists of a series of steep hills. Numerous small streams run into the main river. Which tumbles down the valley in a series of waterfalls and rapids. The park plays host to 12 species of lemurs, 62 reptile species, 100 amphibians, 350 spiders and several butterflies.

Weather: Ranomafana’s climate is classified as tropical. The is a great deal of rainfall in Ranomafana, even in the driest month. The Köppen-Geiger climate classification is Af. The average temperature in Ranomafana is 23.9 °C. About 2760 mm of precipitation falls annually.

Isalo National Park

Isalo is Madagascar most popular National Park which continues to offer its visitors breathtaking sights and wildlife. It is a National Park in the Ihorombe Region of Madagascar. The park is known for its wide variety of terrain, including sandstone formations, deep canyons, a palm-lined oases, and grassland.

Weather: Isalo National Park receives an average rainfall of less than 450mm/17.7in per year. Unlike the summer rainfall pattern covering most of the country, rainfall is relatively evenly distributed throughout the year, but there are two peaks: in February-March and October-November. It can cool down to freezing in mid-winter.

Tsingy de Bemaraha

The Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park is a national park located in Melaky Region, northwest Madagascar. Tsingy is the Malagasy word for “walking on tiptoes”. The tsingys are remarkable karstic plateaus where groundwater has undercut the elevated uplands, gouging caverns and fissures into the limestone.

Weather: This area is best described as âsemi desertâ and the arid conditions can get particularly harsh in the height of summer, and rainfall is scarce even in the rainy seasons. From November to March moving around a struggle, so it is best to find your self a nice air-conditioned hotel or pack your bathing suit and cool off in the ocean. If rain does fall it will be during these periods, so the tropical showers come as cooling relief from the blistering sun. In stark contrast, the winter months in the west and south west are comparatively pleasant- the months are home to clear blue skies, cooler temperatures and basically no rainfall.

Andasibe-Mantadia

Andasibe-Mantadia National Park is a protected rainforest area in eastern Madagascar. The park consists of forests Mantadia and Analamazaotra and is world famous for its population of Indri Indri, the largest living lemur.

Weather: Andasibe-Mantadia National Park is located in Andasibe City which has a significant rainfall. Even in the driest month there is a lot of rain. This climate is considered to be Cfa according to the Köppen-Geiger climate classification. The average temperature in Andasibe is 19.4 °C. The average annual rainfall is 1890 mm.
