Rwanda

Rwanda is a landlocked East African country with a green, mountainous landscape. It is also known as Le Pays des Mille Collines (Land of a Thousand Hills) thanks to the endless mountains in this remarkable welcoming country. The Rwanda Franc is the currency of Rwanda, abbreviated as RWF. The people of Rwanda mainly speak three major languages: Kinyarwanda, French, and English.

Kigali

Kigali is the capital city of Rwanda, roughly in the center of the country. It sprawls across numerous hills, ridges and valleys, and has a vibrant restaurant and nightlife scene which makes it an awesome place to visit.

Weather: On average, the temperatures are always high. Most rainfall (rainy season) is seen in February, March, April, October, November and December. Kigali has dry periods in June and July. On average, the warmest month is August, the coolest month is July, April is the wettest month. This month should be avoided if you don’t like too much rain. July is the driest month.

Huye

Huye is the third city of Rwanda, located in the south. It was formerly known as Butare and many maps and official documents still refer to Butare. It is an attractively compact and peaceful town with a reputation of being the intellectual and cultural centre of the country. If you are planning a trip to Rwanda Huye should be in your bucket list.

Weather: The climate in Butare is warm and overcast. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 57°F to 80°F and is rarely below 55°F or above 84°F. Volcanos National Park

Volcanoes National Park lies in northwestern Rwanda and borders Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda. Rwanda’s gorilla tours are the most famous tourist attraction Volcanoes National Parks .

Weather: Rwanda is located 30 degrees south of the Equator, Rwanda is relatively on high altitude which provides it with a remarkably pleasant tropical highland climate, albeit also with plenty of rain. Temperatures vary considerably between locations depending on their altitude but very little from month to month in the same place. In the capital, Kigali, the average daily temperature is about 21°C.

Kibuye

Kibuye is a city in Karongi District, and the headquarters of the Western Province in Rwanda.

Weather: The climate in Kibuye is warm and overcast. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 65°F to 81°F and is rarely below 62°F or above 85°F.

Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park lies in eastern Rwanda, hugging the border with Tanzania. It is dominated by swamps and small lakes with flow in the wake of River Kagera.

Weather : Average annual rainfall levels range between 1300mm to 2000mm .Temperatures range between 24°C and 28°C and average rainfall levels fall to between 750mm and 1000mm. January is the hottest month with an average temperature of 23°C (73°F) and the coldest is February at22°C (72°F).

Gisenyi

Gisenyi is a town on the north shore of Lake Kivu, in northwestern Rwanda’s Rubavu district. At only an hour away from Volcanoes National Park, Rubavu is a great way to unwind after trekking adventures.

Annual weather: Gisenyi’s climate is classified as tropical. In winter, there is much less rainfall in Gisenyi than in summer. The Köppen-Geiger climate classification is Aw. The average annual temperature in Gisenyi is 20.1 °C. In a year, the average rainfall is 1172 mm.

Nyanza

Nyanza is a town located in Nyanza District in the Southern Province of Rwanda. In this town, you will be at the centre of what is considered royal in Rwanda’s traditional history.

Weather : The climate here is tropical. In winter, there is much less rainfall in Nyanza than in summer. The Köppen-Geiger climate classification is Aw. The average annual temperature in Nyanza is 18.6 °C. Precipitation here averages 1154 mm.

Lake Kivu

Lake Kivu is one of the African Great Lakes. It lies on the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, and is in the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift. It is regarded as the 6th largest lake on the African continent and has three major towns of Gisenyi, Kibuye and Cyangugu.

Weather: The climate in Lake Kivu is warm and overcast. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 61°F to 82°F and is rarely below 58°F or above 87°F.

Nyungwe Forest National Park

Nyungwe National Park lies in southwest Rwanda, partly abutting the Burundi border. Nyungwe became a National Park in 2004 as Rwanda sought to increase its tourism beyond the country’s mountain gorillas of Volcanoes National Park.
