Senegal

Senegal is a country on Africa’s west coast with a rich French colonial heritage and many natural attractions. Dakar, the capital, features the ancient Médina district and esteemed Musée Théodore Monod, displaying African art. The official currency of Senegal is the West African CFA franc. The official language is French but other languages are spoken as well. Local languages include Wolof, Pular and Serer. Most of the residents of Senegal and Dakar are Muslim, so it’s important for tourists to keep this in mind.

Dakar

Dakar is the capital of Senegal, in West Africa. It’s an Atlantic port on the Cap-Vert peninsula. Hot, dusty and derelict streets are brought to life by locals parading in an explosion of brightly-coloured fabrics and sharply-tailored suits.

Weather: July is the hottest month in Dakar with an average temperature of 28°C (82°F) and the coldest is February at21°C (70°F) with the most daily sunshine hours at 12 in May. The wettest month is August with an average of 150mm of rain.

Saint-Louis

Saint-Louis is a city on the northwest coast of Senegal. It’s known for its colonial architecture. Its incredible history as the capital of Senegal until 1957 is part of what led to its being inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.

Weather: In Saint-Louis, the summers are short, hot, and mostly cloudy; the winters are short, warm, windy, and mostly clear; and it is muggy and dry year round. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 63°F to 92°F and is rarely below 58°F or above 100°F.

Ziguinchor

Ziguinchor is the capital of the Ziguinchor Region, and the chief town of the Casamance area of Senegal, lying at the mouth of the Casamance River.

Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary

The Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary lies on the southeast bank of the Senegal River in Senegal, in northern Biffeche, north east of St-Louis. It provides a range of wetland habitats which prove very popular with migrating birds, many of which have just crossed the Sahara
